對話系列 IV - 黑雨滂沱,我有點不安 / 顯赫之名;我曾在那裏 Ting Chaong-Wen 丁昶文 mamoru 馬寞路 Double Solo Exhibition 雙個展 Date: April 07 to April 30, 2018 展期: 2018年4月7日至4月30日 Opening Date & Artist talk: April 07 15:00, 2018 開幕暨藝術家座談: 2018年4月7日(六)15:00 ( Installation view of black rain fell in torrents. Iʼm little nervous. sounding title. I was there, 107 gallery, 2018 ) The black rain fell in torrents; I'm little nervous / sounding title; I was there is the third in a dialogue series of double solo exhibitions beginning in 2016. The exhibition brings together the artists mamoru and Ting Chaong-Wen, whose respective explorations of certain geographical and spatial histories examine the possibility of a reality reconstructed with various forms and materials. Japanese artist mamoru transcribes the soundscape of the specific locations into texts through listening and extensive research on the history and/or geography; the presented soundscape can be of the past, present, future, and imaginary. The work “THE WAY I HEAR, B.S.LYMAN; 19 June, 1874, Sonatine for Collective Imagination” uses sounds, words, writings, and archival documents to present the main contents of the work. It invites the spectators to relocate themselves into the time-space and the historic trip through listening. How might popular culture extend between the real and the imagined? Following a protracted study concentrated on the capability of space and matter to capture the abstraction of time, Ting Chaong-Wen reveals in his work how the categorisation of 'geography' moulds cultural symbols. "Mount Mihara Monogatari" began with investigations of on-site bodily experiences before shifting to an imagination-based creative process. Out of this emerged an opening for a method in sculpture and moving image which could respond to the restlessness of modern society and the odd way in which we look forward to catastrophe. The black rain fell in torrents; I'm little nervous / sounding title; I was there exhibition is a new form of reconstructed historical document. Sound, text, moving image, and other material are compiled in an investigative research method by which the personal experiences, contents, and means of artistic production are all filed as evidence and frames of reference. These operations, either inevitable or incidental, are weighed against each other in this era where we have already been centred. It is a re-direction of the culturally fixed habits of perspective and a re-positioning at a crossroads where the poetry of a common imaginary unfolds. mamoru (b.1977, Osaka, Japan) mamoru transcribes the soundscape of the specific locations into texts through listening and extensive research on the history and/or geography; the presented soundscape can be of the past, present, future, and imaginary. The latest project a long listening journey of a Possible thiStory especially of Japanese & Dutch & something more grafts the 17th century Dutch made imaginary Japanese history on the actual present of the 21st century Japan and creates a possible history. It consists of lecture performances and video works. Other recent series of works named THE WAY I HEAR are often presented with texts in various forms: narrated voice, written text, projected text, text film. Other projects such as Etude for Everyday Life or Wind Studies that features subtle sound and ephemeral phenomenon found in everyday life such as boiling water or ice melting, are also shown in Japan and internationally. www.afewnotes.com |
